Learn the process of Nerikomi with Artist Annabelle Black.

What is Nerikomi? The term comes from the Japanese words neri (to mix) and komi (to press into, as in pressing clay slabs into a mold). Nerikomi utilizes clay stained with vibrant colors to create beautiful patterns and marbling.

In this one-day workshop, participants will learn how to use colored clay to create stunning patterned clay slabs. You will get to choose from a selection of pre-stained clays and get guidance on every step along the way.

You will then be guided on building a project of your choice with the decorative slabs.

Pieces are then left at the Mud Shop for additional firing and glazing.

Workshop includes all materials and firings.

Beginner-friendly workshop

Adults only.

ARTIST BIO

Annabelle Black is a ceramics artist from Victoria, British Columbia. She is currently attending the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, where she is working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in Ceramics. She previously studied in the Visual Arts program at Camosun College. Miss Black has participated in several exhibitions at both Camosun College and NSCAD, where her paintings and sculptural ceramic works have been featured. Her practice uses ceramics and painting processes to explore the natural world and the human response to it. While her process is often spontaneous and intuitive, the physical act of making, working directly with her hands, is a grounding part of her practice.
